How to Install a Windsock

You Have Your Windsock; Now How Do You Install It?

Welcome to installation station! One of our customers pointed out that he loved our products, but he wished there were some instructions included in box on how to install the windsock. We thought that was a great idea!

We are working to prepare some instructions to include in the box and also write a little blog about how to install your windsocks once you have them in hand.

Installing Heavy Duty Industrial Windsocks to a Double Ball Bearing Frame

If you choose to purchase a windsock with us, you might order just a replacement windsock or you might order a frame with a windsock.

Heavy duty industrial windsocks that are 18", 24" or 36" in mouth diameter will require special installation.

If you are installing a larger, heavy-duty windsock for the first time, you will need to engage professional installation services for the installation of a pole and anchor. Ensure you use a professional contractor, so the job is done correctly and compliant to city or regional regulations.

Larger windsocks require heavier double ball bearing frames are designed for more industrial applications. They will fit onto poles installed at location on rooftops. They are also threaded to fit standard installed poles.

For smaller windsocks (6”, 10” or 13”) that attach to machine bearing frames, you can construct your own pole using a piece of galvanized water pipe. You can purchase a variety of sizes at any hardware store.

Installing Smaller Windsocks on a Machine Bearing Frame

For smaller windsocks that attach to machine bearing frames, you can purchase a 1/2-inch galvanized water pipe with a coupler screwed onto the top. For a sturdier pole, a 3/4-inch pole, coupler and a reducing bushing will also work.

Our machine bearing frames will screw directly into the coupler or bushing.

Prior to attaching the frame to the pole, install your windsock by pulling the mouth of the sock over the large hoop on the frame and attaching it by threading zip ties through the grommets and onto the circular frame.

Installing Lightweight Windsocks

Lightweight windsocks come with a rope and a clip to allow for easy installation. You simply need to purchase a short flag pole from your local hardware store or online. Ensure that it has a loop on the mast to allow you to clip your windsock into the mast.

Installing Golf Pin Windsocks

Installing golf pin windsocks is not as difficult as it may seem. The windsocks come with a plastic composite ring sewn inside the mouth and they also come with four brass grommets sewn in as well.

You can use a closed S hook to install them onto your golf pin flag pole.
