The Type of Frame Matters When Buying a Windsock
Hoop, There It Is!
Yep—we’re pretty chuffed with that one too.
One of the most common questions we get is:
“Why doesn’t my windsock fit my frame properly?” It usually comes down to
one key factor—what kind of frame you’re using:
single hoop or double hoop.
Why Doesn’t My Windsock Fit?
You measured the hoop diameter. You double-checked the sock length. But when you try to slide the windsock over your frame, it won’t stretch past the first hoop or reach the second.
If this sounds familiar, chances are your windsock was made for a single hoop frame—but your setup is actually a double hoop.
That’s a big deal, because windsocks are constructed differently depending on the frame type.
Why Frame Type Matters
When ordering a windsock, it’s essential to tell the manufacturer or supplier what kind of frame you’ll be using:
-
A single hoop frame only needs a windsock with a matching hoop diameter.
-
A double hoop frame requires a specially made windsock with additional sizing at the tail end to stretch over both hoops.
If you don’t provide this info, you may end up with a sock that just won’t fit—no matter how perfect the measurements look on paper.
Ordering a Windsock with Your Frame in Mind
✅ Buying a Windsock Without a Frame Yet?
If you’re new to windsocks and don’t already have a frame, we highly recommend buying the sock and frame together from the same supplier (that’s us!) to make sure everything fits perfectly.
✅ Have a Single Hoop Frame?
All you need to do is provide the
hoop diameter.
Just make sure your windsock’s opening matches this measurement, and you’re good to go.
✅ Have a Double Hoop Frame?
We’ll need a bit more info to ensure a great fit:
📧 Email info@custom-windsocks.com with the following:
-
Your name
-
A reference to your uploaded artwork (or attach it)
-
Background colour you want for the windsock
-
Diameter of the first hoop
-
Diameter of the second hoop
-
Distance between the two hoops
(See diagram below for visual guide – insert diagram)
With this info, we’ll figure out the best way to make your custom windsock. In most cases, we simply adjust the tail opening for extra stretch—but sometimes we may rework the windsock’s design entirely using multiple fabric panels. Either way, we’ll keep you in the loop the whole way through.
Why Are Windsocks for Double Hoop Frames More Expensive?
Great question!
We keep our standard windsocks affordable by using preset machinery and pre-cut fabric, which allows us to produce them in volume.
But a windsock for a double hoop requires:
-
Custom sizing
-
Tailored adjustments to the shape
-
A break from our usual production flow
That’s why there’s often a small extra cost.
That said, we always do our best to offer fair pricing, especially for bulk orders—and we’re happy to chat if you’re placing a larger request.
