    PRODUCT DESCRIPTION FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA FLAG

    The flag of Alaska was designed by 13 year old Benny Benson who entered a design competition in 1927 and who was inspired by the Northern night sky. The flag shows the constellation of the big dipper and the North Star. The big dipper or Ursa Major, which symbolizes a bear, an animal that is commonly seen around Alaska. When Alaska attained statehood in 1959, the flag remained the same.
